The 1x30 sharpening secret
A leather belt on a 1″ x 30″ sander is the fastest home sharpening setup there is: climb the A/O grit ladder, then finish on leather loaded with polishing compound for a clean, polished edge.
The leather carries the compound — the compound does the cutting — so the belt itself lasts for years of edges.

Suitability
What is it for?
Use it for
- Stropping kitchen, EDC and hunting knives after the grit ladder
- Final edge polish with compound
Not the right belt for
- Any material removal — it is not an abrasive
- Running dry — it needs compound
Technical details
Good to know
Low speed, light pressure, edge trailing — the edge points away from belt travel. Alternate sides until the edge pops.
Compounds embed in the leather; dedicate the belt to a single compound for consistent results.
